Toyota recalls 40,000 NZ vehicles

Up to 40,000 New Zealand vehicles are affected by Toyota’s global precautionary recall of more than six million units.
In every case, Toyota New Zealand will contact the owner and make arrangements for a remedy. This includes imported vehicles. In each case the repair is provided free of charge. Anyone concerned about their vehicle can contact Toyota New Zealand on 0800 TOYOTA or can contact their dealer.
Affected 4WDs/SUVs: certain RAV4, Prado and Hilux vehicles produced between June 2004 and December 2010 are affected by spiral cable issues. The spiral cable is installed in the steering column to connect steering wheel-mounted electrical systems.
Spencer Morris, Toyota New Zealand general manager, customer services, stressed the recalls are precautionary and has stated they are not related to cost-cutting but that “mistakes were made”. There have been no reported instances of accidents or incidents related to any of these recalls in New Zealand or globally.
